Apologies to Jenni et al for my recent lack of blogging

This Bebo craze sure is addictive, but I shall not forsake my blog, I promise! After all I do want you to have something to do at work Jenni! And likewise I need something to do at work sometimes which is why I intend to make this a very long entry!
I also need a place to vent my depressed, poly cystic induced rants and Bebo is just a little too public for that!

So, to start, a Friday Five:

1. Who was your favorite teacher?
Mrs Ryan - HOD Drama Sacred Heart.

2. Why was that teacher so special?
She is a wonderful lady, very inspiring, a lot of fun, told me I could sing, gave me my first lead roles and is still a very dear friend and my 2nd Mum!

3. Do you think teachers get paid enough?
Hell no, not drama teachers especially. I've been there and seen it for myself.

4. Do you have a favorite year of school?
7th form was awesome. Gosh I miss scholl sometimes.

5. If you could travel back in time and tell yourself something now that would have helped you get through school, what would you say?
Don't do 6th form maths! I didn't need it to get my A Bursary and it made me cry and stress out too much.

Now for some film reviews. Most of these have closed now, but will write about them anyway!

Angel - was looking forward to seeing this just because of the stunning red dress. And the red dress turned out to be the only good thing in the entire film! Now, I love cheesey, soppy, romantic films but this was just utter rubbish, and had the worst blue screen work I have ever seen! Ever!
Also, the screen kiss had me in hysterics - boy leaves girl's party, girl runs after boy, proposes marriage to him, rain falls drenching them within a second, camera pans up to the sky where a perfect rainbows arches over them. Over the top even for my overly romantic self!

The Banquet - I go along to see these Chinese films purely for the spectacle, and I certainly was not disappointed with this one. Stunning. However, as usual the story was pretty crap and the ending really really annoying.

Georgia Rule - was hoping for rubbishy light comedy, but it turned out to deal with the very heavy topic of child rape. Probably would have stayed away if I had known about that as that just upsets me far too much.
But other than that it was pretty good. Even with Lindsay Lohan in it, but then again, she practically played herself anyway.

Because I Said So - Very good chick flick that the guy I went with also enjoyed! Diane Keaton is just fabulous anyway, and it had Lauren Graham in it too! Extremely funny with a very cute kid and a character who loves polka dots as much as I do! lol

License To Wed - All the characters in this pretty much annoyed me but it was a good time waster. Ihave to say, I have never seen such a skanky wedding dress though.

And finally, Amazing Grace. Everyone has been going nuts over this film and it has been our most popular here at Rialto, but I have to agree with Sam Edwards' 3 star review, it was ok to wtach and inspiring yes, but it was just a touch slow for me. My Mum loved it though and she is very difficult to please when it comes to films.

The International Film Festival started yesterday, so yay for us, lots of business and yay for me, lots of management shifts!
I'm only going to see one, maybe two movies during the festival though because all the others I am interested in come out on general release later in the year. So Monday it's Razzle Dazzle, the Aussie mockumentary about a kids dance competition. It's had great reviews so am really looking forward to it.
And if I can fit it in, Jesus Camp, because I have to admit I do like a good chuckle at the expense of Christian Fundies.

Can't wait till next payday, am going to spend up large on Rockabilly clothing and accessories. I already have my eye on these from TradeMe:

http://www.trademe.co.nz/Clothing/Womenswear/Accessories/Sunglasses/photos/a-113315707/p-39401850.htm

Mum doesn't believe I will have the guts to wear them in public, but I am wholeheartedly going to embrace my quirkiness and go whole hog. I mean I am already used to being stared at in the street by scruffy, unkempt individuals who can't comprehend my perfectly colour coordinated outfits with cute bags and highheels.
Am thinking "Bettsy" would be the perfect 1950s nickname for me too. I don't really get why Hilary's the only one who's ever called me this! It seems like such an obvious choice for me!

I bought a very cute 1950s style strapless dress from Pagani the other day. They have some very good stuff and I have now got to the point where I walk in and the girl says, "I remember you!" and starts showing me new lines that have come in that she knows are my style because I gave here her last huge comission!!! I have already been through 3 Pagani cards in the last 2 years! For you overseas readers, you have to spend $300 within a year and you get $20 off your next purchase of $40 or more. And would you believe it, I still have nothing to wear!

Speaking of what to wear....don't laugh...but yesterday I ended up in pants and a swandry! Ok, laugh a little, I did.....Ok, not that much!
How did this unfortunate and unlikely event occur, I hear you ask? Well, my good friend Rob has moved into a new house in the middle of nowhere, and is selling his big old barn/shed also in the middle of nowhere (!) Anyway, open house this Sunday meant he had to get all his crap out of the shed. And boy was it a lot of crap! Anyway, it turns out there is a bit of the good old Kiwi bloke in me and we did a good hard day's yakka. My arms are definately making their presence felt today though lol. But it was good to prove to myself, and Rob, that I'm not a completely helpless female....and I didn't break a single nail!

What else?

Not much.

I guess that means I'd better stop mucking around and find some work to do since I am here for the next six and a half hours!

Just what I need - another expensive addiction!

Stumbled across this little website the other day, while researching a possible new lifestyle choice.
Yup, am thinking about abandoning the modern world for good and becoming my own brand of "Rockabilly".
Basically transport myself back to the 1950s where I belong, and start dressing the part!

With the help of this webstore:

http://www.babygirlboutique.com/dresses.html

Methinks I may need to sell a few more pairs of shoes if I am to afford some of these dresses!

By the way, if you head over to Wikipeadia like I did to research, I'll let you know now that I'm not going to go out and get all tattoed! Ouchies!

Money, Money, Money

So, today I got to thinking about the above. Not because I want it, but actually because I DON'T want it.
Mainly, I don't want my children to have it.

Most of you know I did a 6 month stint teaching speech and drama at Southwell School, and while the kids were really lovely, all they knew was money. I'm talking about 8 year olds discussing who's Dad had the better car; who's family was going on the most expensive holiday; which of them had the better mobile phone etc In my day, it was who caught the most ladybirds at lunch time!
A lot of my friends growing up were from quite well off families, which resulted in mummy and daddy buying them, cars, phones, paying for uni and in one case buying a $300,000 apartment in the Auckland CDB. Now, a lot of these people are studying careers that will earn them lots of money in the longrun.
It seems to me, the more you have, then the more you want and all you'll never be satisfied with what you have because there is always something else that you don't have, that you feel you should. And I don't know how someone could really be happy that way.

I didn't grow up rich. My father smoke and drank our money away, so I was always kind of aware that I didn't have what my friends did, but I really didn't mind, because I have an amazing mother who always did everything she could to give me a happy life.
Today, I have my own place, my own stuff, 125 pairs of shoes and I am paying off my 2nd car. I went to uni, got scholarships to help out with fees, have a fab job and my own little business, and I am so happy with that. Mainly because, I worked hard for it and did it all by myself. And I'm pretty sure I appreciate it a lot more than if it had just been given to me.

I have no desire to have a career. Being somewhere five days a week, for eight hours a day for the next 40 odd years is the most depressing thought in the world to me. Life is to be enjoyed and spent with the people you love. Which is why I'm certainly not going to work once I'm married and have children. A sentiment that was set in concrete when I found out that one of the girls I taught at Southwell had been placed in the boarding house because she was a 'distraction' to her mother who worked from home! That was honestly one of the most heartbreaking things I have ever heard in my life.

I really don't understand how people can let their jobs take over their lives. I get that of course in order to live, one must make money somehow, but how much work is too much? How important is it really to be rich?

I have an aquaintance who I would like to spend time with, but can't because of their job. It is a job where they earn quite a bit of money, but it appears that it takes up their entire life.
A couple of times we have managed to get together to do stuff, but they were so exhausted they kept yawning the entire time, which made me feel guilty for taking up time they could be using to rest; and the other time, they had somewhere more important they really had to be, which meant constantly looking at their watch. Quite insulting really when it was their birthday and I was trying to do something nice for them. How can a job that does that to you really be worth it? Now, I know for a fact that this person would quite like a relationship, but how can that work when you have no time? And how can one call oneself "fun", "exciting" and "interesting" when one has a job that completely drains them to the point where they are actually quite boring to spend time with? Sadly, I haven't talked to this person for ages now. They just don't have time. Not even to answer a txt or email. A shame because without such a demanding job, this person really would be "fun", "exciting" and "interesting".

A career? No thank you. I work enough to keep me fed, warm and in a house. I never have anything left over on payday to save, but I don't mind. I'm very happy with my life. I don't have to slog my guts out everyday working for someone else, and I have free time to do what I like in.

Of course, I wouldn't be devestated if I won Lotto! I wouldn't go overboard though. I would pay off debt, buy a pretty little 1920s villa in Ham East, and keep the rest for my kids' uni fees and my retirement. High tech flashy gizmos are of no interest to me. Diamonds however....that might be a different story!
