Cary's car! I want it! I want it! I want it! I want it!
Ah well, I got a pretty lovely present from LilyBelle today - she has been rather skittish and wary of me since I got her but today she jumped up on the couch and onto my knee by her own will! Yay!
She is just the cutest thing and I love her to bits. Awwww.
Although, she has led me to believe that my house is haunted.
Now, this may just be a side effect of The Munsters marathon I've been having this last week, but she has started doing the same crazy thing Barnaby (the kitty cat) did when I had him - running madly around the house behind the lounge suite and into the kitchen and around the table!
I know animals are able to sense spirits so maybe I am haunted! I'm not concerned though, nothing sinister at all has happened in the two years since I've been here, so I'm sure it's a friendly ghost!
I hope everyone had a fab Christmas. Mum came over and we just watched tv all day. Did anyone see the Coro St Christmas pantomime? I think that was my favourite part of the day! So if anyone sees it on dvd anywhere, please let me know!

Tis the season to be jolly.....fa la la la la...la la la la
So to continue from my post about people looking at me strangely when I'm in fairy costume; a big, fat bah humbug to all you Rialto patrons who stare at me like I have lights flashing from my head.....even though I do actually have lights flashing from my head! I found a cute reindeer headband to wear to work which has tinsel and flashing lights. I've only had one nice comment from a customer about it, the rest look at me like I'm a freak. And I'm sort of starting to think maybe I must be some sort of freak to want to have some silly fun in a world which is apparently way too uptight and serious. Come on people, lighten up!
I'm in a very good mood today, because I had a fabulous fairy party this afternoon for a little girl turning four and ten of her kindy friends.
They were so so cute! A little shy until I gave them some pretty fairy sparkles like mine and then we were all best friends.
Particularly funny was their take on musical flowers. After the first person got out, the rest decided that rather than run like mad to get to a flower to avoid being out, they all wanted to get out instead so that they too could get a lollipop! It was very hard work to try and get someone to stand on a flower! Hehe!
When I was leaving, one little girl told me that she would come and visit me in Fairyland very soon, while the rest farewelled me with a chorus of "I love you, Fairy!"
Made my day.
Unlike yesterday's disaster of a party. Litlle sh*&% the lot of them!
I have never met such rude, disrespectful, mean, ungrateful, monsterous children!
I swear it was the longest hour of my life, putting up with "I don't want to do this", "This is stupid", "This lollipop tastes like feet", "This is dumb".
And then the icing on the cake while opening presents - birthday girl got a My Little Pony, and threw a real tanty! "What is this?!", "I hate MLP", "Why did you get me this?", "What am I supposed to do with it?".
I was horrified. Mum seemed a little embarrassed, but if that were my daughter, she would have had all her presents taken away from her until she had written letters of apologies to everyone present and made up for her behaviour.
I was so glad to get out of there.
The kids were obviously too old for a fairy party (7 and 8) and couldn't really care less.
I really wish parents would plan parties that their kids actually like instead of doing something that they think is good.
Ah well. I did get an extra $10 for the trauma!
Oh, before I forget, has anyone else seen the Centreplace Santa? Now, I love Christmas, and Santa and a big thumbs up to everyone who loves entertaining children as much as I do, but this Santa is visably younger and SKINNIER than me! I couldn't believe it! This world is getting far too PC.
I am tempted to do a movie review of The Darjeeling Limited, which I saw at my first ever print test (even though I have worked at Rialto for over 2 years)! but am still trying to decide what I thought of it. I think I liked it. It definately had some very good moments. A bit disappointed Angelica Houston's role was a very small one. Love her. Apparently she beat up Jack Nicholson when they were dating!
In other news, my Caryvention saving is back on track after not doing too well - you know how it goes, you put a bit aside, then the bills come rolling in and you have to dip into it - but anyway, the other day I got a letter informing me that I have recieved $1k plus interest in inheritance that I thought I wasn't getting until I turned 25, so thank you Aunty Florence! I'll bet she's up in heaven playing cards with Cary :)
And finally, I hope to be adopting a mini lop bunny sometime this week! I have a hutch for her (I'm going to call her LilyBelle), and I just have topaint it pink (!) and find a compatible bunny! I'd love a blue eyed white lop, because I think it would look too cute in a pair of miniature fairy wings, and thus if friendly and sociable enough, would be a great partner to bring along to my fairy parties!

A LOT of ranting and if I have the energy, some reviews
So, my sabbatical from the theatre is going to last a little longer than expected. I was really looking forward to West Side Story next year - finally a good dancers' show! But....it's not happening.
I undertsnad the reasons why but am still miffed and extremely disappointed.
Instead, we get Bare. Haven't heard of it? No one has.
Modern crap.
Well, maybe not crap, afterall I don't know anything about it, other than it is WAY too similar to Rent to be done so soon.
It's set in 2000 in a Catholic boarding school and is about an altarboy who thinks he's gay and a popular guy who also may or may not be gay. They're teens, they have angst, they can't decide what the hell they want. They grate my nerves! Who cares about angst ridden teens who can't decide who they are!? I don't, and the older generation, who let's face it, make up 80% of Riverlea's audiences certainly won't either.
People in Hamilton, also want what they know, they are extremely scared of the unknown, and this show is one even I hadn't heard of!
Everyone knows I am stuck in the past, and I thought my beloved little theatre would be the one place where I could quite happilly stay in the past with classic musicals with characters I can relate to, and shows with no swearing in them. But no. Young people have taken over the theatre and I think soon, there won't be very many shows I'm interested in doing there.
I used to be one of the youngest members, now I'm about in the middle agewise.
I hate the modern world.
And I hate teens. There is only one...maybe two young Riverlea people I like. The rest are really arrogant, the-whole-world-revolves-around-me little sods.
Ok, so I will give Bare a chance, because lovely, lovely Mel has been given her first shot at directing and is awfully excited, but I know I won't like it.
I just don't relate to modern characters. I don't share their problems, or views on the world.
Laurie and Ado Annie, Eliza Doolittle, Cathy Seldon and Lena Lamont, Lois Lane and Lilli Vanessi - these are characters I can relate to!
At this point, I am just hoping that Chicago doesn't get the chop as well. Or I will be really mad!
Speaking of modern musicals; I am worried about Wicked. I recently got my hot little hands on a copy of the book which I have been dying to read since I heard that there was a book, and well....I'm hating it. (Sorry, Shambles)! I am determined to finish it, but it is nothing like the world L. Frank Baum created. Too full of sex and politics. It is not the Oz I grew up with; nor is it, I feel, the type of history Baum would have imagined for his creation. The author has really just taken the characters and setting and written his own book, which he really should not have done, and instead made up his own characters and world and gone from there.
Having freaked out the the wonderful musical, of which I saw a snippet on the Royal Variety Show last Christmas, would not be at all what I thought, I have been studying some reviews of both book and stage show, and am pleased to learn that the show has cut out a lot of the book and made it PG rated and more family friendly. Thank Oz!
Ok, will calm down now and offer some movie reviews:
Venus.
Ok, not quite calmed down yet. Why do movies have to have so much swearing???!!!!! Oh my goodness, I have had quite the crush on Peter O'Toole since I first saw Lawrence of Arabia and his stunning blue eyes....but having seen Venus, my crush is over. The constant stream of filth from his mouth has done it. Now, the majority of my friends know that I can't stand swearing and cringe every time someone uses the F word in my presence. And most of my lovely friends are good enough to hold back or apologise if one slips out in front of me, and for that I thank them.
I am so glad I didn't take Mum to see this movie! Nothing but smut. Smut and swearing. Am very disappointed, Peter. Very disappointed.
Elizabeth: The Golden Age.
I'm Catholic. Mary Queen of Scots was the rightful queen of England. Cate Blancette grates my nerves. But a very good and visually stunning film I have to say. I must make another attempt to watch the first one again. I got bored the last time. Will definately try it again.
Atonement.
Depressing film. I like happy, feel good films with a decent love story where the couple ends up together in the final scene. This was not a film I would watch again, but it was good. And it would definately be my pic of the best Oscar winner next year. And the five minute scene on the beach done in one single sweeping shot was an amazing piece of film. Tres bien.
Joshua.
Had reservations about seeing this film as I get scared extremely easily. But I do enjoy a good thriller in daylight hours, soI went along. Luckilly I wasn't the only person in the cinema this time! And thankfully, all the creepy bits that make you jump were in the trailer.
No likable characters, but was a decent watch and the little boy in the title role was brilliant.
The White Planet.
Mum and I were like a couple of schoolgirls watching this, giggling and whispering to each other incessently!
Polar Bears are SOOOOOOOO cute!
And I want an Artic Angel jellyfish as a pet. They are awesome!
Not a great film, very little narration, mostly just scenery and observing the animals, but the animals are lovely and most entertaining to watch.
And a dvd review to close.
Had dinner with the Shambles the other night, and since I let slip that I had never seen The Princess Bride, guess what we watched!
Um.....most people are going to hate me, but I wasn't overly taken with it. It was amusing and had some very good supporting characters, but I could not stand Princess Buttercup. What a whinging, moaning, whining, ungreatful, useless bratty, little tart!
And Wesley was quite an arrogant prick too.
Sorry.
But at least I can say that I have seen it now!

Christmas fun!
Now, I LOVE Christmas.....well I used to, when my family were still kinda normal and I was at home etc. But now, I'm living by myself, the only family I really have is my Mummy and I am the youngest in the clan.
Although, I got out the Christmas earrings yesterday, I don't have a tree or decorations up again this year!
So, I am really hanging our for the year when I am a Mummy myself, and can go all out with the over the top, uber traditional and super fun Christmas.
But until then, I have decided to adopt the lubbly staff at Rialto as my babies, and try and make December at work as fun as possible.....and maybe a little silly too.......So, Rialtonians, watch this space! Strange happenings will begin to take place during my shift tomorrow night........
