Raindrops on kittens and whiskers on roses

Last night was one of the most fun nights I have had.....ever!
Annie stage manager Luanne organised a singalong Sound of Music screening at Victoria Cinema (I know they're the enemy, but HO probably won't let us do anything that fun) and my friend Emma and decided that we absolutely had to go, being the musical nerds that we are!
Then I got an email from Emma saying she wasn't going to dress up! Now, anyone who knows me knows that this is simply not on! So I emailed her back and said, "Yes, you are. We're going as the 'girls in white dresses in blue satin sashes'." Done.
We knew we would be a success when we were sitting in the car on Vic St and a woman walked past, did a double take and cracked up. And all she could see were our pigtails with blue ribbon in them!
So, there were about 35 nutters who took over the theatre, mainly nuns and a few Bavarian tarts, as well as other "favourite things" - kittens, roses, moonbeams and brown paper packages tied up with string!
Anyway, loaded up with nibbles and as much champagne as we could handle the movie started....and so did we!
There were two men in the audience who had never seen the film before.....and they still haven't!
Now, if you've heard of the Rocky Horror Picture Show screenings that are quite wild, I can assure you that the Sound of Music crew are ten times more insane! Well, Mags, Emma and I were anyway. Noone else would join us up front for the dance numbers! Our "So long, Farewell" was a hit even though the three of us had to play seven children, and Emma and I couldn't resist they Austrian folk dance. We are such dance nerds!
Anyway, I got quite tiddly on champagne and all of you people who think you know me so well, would not have recognised me. The good little Catholic girl in a pure white dress way up in the back row who called out "March of the Penguins" when the nuns came on!
Anyway, with all the booing and hissing at the Nazis, Rolf and Baroness Schraeder and singing every song at the top of my lungs and calling out rude things whenever Captain Von Trapp mentioned his whistle (hehe) I have no voice left today.
And I will never be able to watch The Sound of Music with a straight face again. And I sure as hell would not be allowed to see a live show of it!

But the absolutely fabulous news is...we've convinced the organisers to do it all again, with GREASE!!!!!!!! (Which then prompted Emma and I into a Grease medley standing on Vic St at half time, with drunk people walking past looking at us funny)!
So, if you want to come along - and believe me you should! Let me know, so I can give Luanne numbers. It's only $30 and it is sooooooooo much fun! Plus you get all the booze you can handle.

And after Grease, it's going to be Priscilla, Queen of the Desert!

I hope Victoria Cinema knows what they're letting themselves in for!

The shame. The shame of it all.

I am so disappointed in myself.
I went to see Blades of Glory today.
And I.....I......I...um....liked it. (Hangs head in shame).
I'm also wearing pants.
And I ate popcorn.

All cannot be right with the world.

Anyway, why did I got to see this film in the first place? Well, am home and lonely and depressed so wanted to get out of the house for a bit. And since I've seen all the movies I actually want to see, and since I hadn't yet checked out Chartwell, I decided that 88 minutes wasn't too much of my life to waste.

The three trailers had me all set up for hating the film already - deadly tattoos; a loser guy getting a slutty girl knocked up; and two straight men getting married and pretending to be gay to commit fraud, is the delectable selection of quality film coming up in the next few months. Joy.

So you can imagine my pleasant surprise when Blades started with "Time to Say Goodbye" by Sarah Brightman playing while nuns and orphans skated on a frozen lake.
From there, it was just a short time until the amazing figure skating routines, glittery costumes and gorgeous men in tights with buns of steel fully captured my attention.

I still can't believe I enjoyed a Will Farrell movie.

Love Chartwell though! Very classy and elegant with comfy seats which I can comfortably cross my legs in and curl up in without getting squished by arm rests.

Wouldn't want to work there though. Too big.

Hmm...still can't believe I liked Blades of Glory.

I am sooooooo tempted......

To wear my fairy costume to work tomorrow, that is. However I think I shall have to just go with the fairy themed accessories...of which I have many...d'uh! Since of course I work for a huge conglomerate cooperation which specialises in crushing souls and sucking fun out of everything.
So why, other than the fact that, hey, it is me! Do I want to dress like a fairy tomorrow?

Well, I owe a big thank you to April Elf for pointing out to me that tomorrow is indeed Fairy Day! (I wonder if this means I get presents? Maybe a bit hopeful, so how about making sure you hug a fairy - ie. me - tomorrow to show your appreciation....and to show you aren't a stodgy old non-believeing unfun grown up person)!

Now, some movie reviews.

First up, Pierrepoint, which I actually saw last year, but it has only just opened so will do my best to tell you to go see it.

Now some people, are interested in how THINGS work, so they take horrible boring subjects at school like science and maths. Yuk. But if you know me, and most of you do, you'll know that I took all the fun artsy subjects like Drama, English, History, Classics and Art History because I am fascinated (isn't that a cool word? Fascinated?) by how PEOPLE work. And this film definately appealed to me for that reason.

It is about Albert Pierrepoint, Britain's most notorious hangman. An ordinary man who owned a grocer shop and later a pub, who had a wife, and was liked and respected in his community, who decided to follow in his daddy's footsteps and start knocking off naughty people for a living.

Now, I am assuming here, but not many people would actually choose to have a job where they have to kill people! So it was very interesting to watch and try to understand this man and to see the effects it had on his family and friends when word got out on how he managed to get the dosh to buy a pub!

Go and watch it. There are no gory bits and it has Juliet Stevenson as Mrs Pierrepoint, who I absolutely love. She pops up in a lot of little British films, but you'd probably know her best as Keira Friggin' Knightley's mum in Bend it Like Beckham.

Paris, Je T'Aime. Which all Rialto staff should now know how to pronounce correctly! (Pa-ree Jeh Tem for those of you who don't work at Rialto or parlez le francais). Apparently I did learn soemthing in my five years of sitting in a French class with a teacher who taught very little French!

Anyway, this a gorgeous film made up of 20 different 5 minute films all about Paris. Most of it is in French but you do have your "Americans in Paris" as well, so you get some English.

A couple of rather odd pieces, but hey, it is an arty film! And some very touching ones.

My favourite though was actually the one about the American woman who is recounting her trip to Paris to her French class. One of the reasons I loved this, was because she spoke French at my level, so I could actually understand what she was saying without having to consult the subtitles. How cool am I?! hehe! I also didn't like it, because I she could very well be a future version of me. Hmm.

Actually no, I think my favourite would have to be the mimes! So funny!

I also have to say, isn't Miranda Richardson gorgeous?! I love her. And she actually didn't have any lines in the film!

Oh, and Juliette Binoche. I would have to say that she is my favourite modern actress. Love her!

Anyway, don't be one of those unsophisticated plebs who go "Ugh. Subtitles!" They are not that hard to follow people! Go and see it. Absolutley charming film. If you don't believe me, ask the two rude old women who sat behind me and talked the entire length of the film! GRRRR!!!!! I desperatly wanted to turn around and give them a big SSSSSHHHHHH! But of course, I was raised too well to be able to do that to people older than myself, and since I work there, they probably wouldn't be too happy if they recognised the person sshhhing them to be a staff member and complain or something. So I had to tolerate it.

And finally, Shrek The Third. Sorry Rob, I saw it without you, but will very happilly go again.

Ok, so the second one is still my favourite, but this one was not as bad as I had heard. It is definately more for adults though, as some lines will have parents cursing the writers when little Johnny or Susie says "Mummy....what did Puss in Boots mean when he said.......?"

Speaking of Puss in Boots, Antonio Banderas is just hot and very very cool, even as a cat!

I found it highly amusing that the villain in the story is none other than my ex. Now for those of you fortunate enough to never actually meet Conan, let me explain that he looks exactly like Prince Charming - a fact he reminded me of often. Only he has 10 times the ego. So yeah, seeing P.C get his comeuppance in the film, felt especially good.

And oh my goodness! You know you want a baby when you get clucky over little ogre babies! But they are soooo cute!!!!

The arse kicking princesses were pretty cool too. Just as bitchy and ditsy as you'd imagine.

Ok, so this review is basically sporadic bits of thought, but I thought it was pretty good.

Favourite bits:

Watch for Julie Andrews humming bits of Chim Chimmeny and Doe a Deer.

And "Sausage roll!" The rebel yell of the Three Little Pigs as they roll onto the stage.

My one major gripe? SIX FRIGGIN' DOLLARS FOR A BOX OF PODS!!!!!!!!!! I'm lucky I like myself enough to think I'm worth the treat! I could not believe it!

Oh, and I wish they had brought back Jennifer Saunders as The Fairy Godmother. She was my favourite :(

Wow. That was a loooong blog!

Now, don't forget Fairy Day tomorrow!

Luv, hugs, 'n' fairy dust, all!

Meet Randolph

From www.catsthatlooklikehitler.com
I'nt he gorgeous! Looks a bit like he's making a fish face, but I think he is so cute!

Tacky to wear diamonds before I'm 40? I think not.

Now, there's not a lot Audrey/Holly Golightly and I disagree upon, but that's one of them......unless she was just saying that to get Fred/Paul out of being looked down on by Tiffany's by not being able to afford diamonds....I can never decide whether or not she really meant that! Thoughts please Jenni and Shambles?
Anyway, had a pretty crap day (Mean reds) on Sunday, so of course first thing yesterday morning before work I was in my Tiffany's -Pascoes (lol) and have now got a beautiful amethyst and diamond cluster ring on layby. Liz Taylor was right: "Diamonds are the only kind of ice that keep a girl warm."
Yes, diamonds are definately better than shoes! Which as it happens, I have a good....fifth? of my shoes sitting in a washing basket waiting to be listed on TradeMe.
Rehinge your jaws please.
Yup, I finally did it...and it turns out my bedroom has a floor AND carpet! Wow!
Mind you I still didn't do that well, as my excuse for not throwing some things out is that maybe I'll need it for a costume one day, and off it goes into my now bulging costume chest - I love my costume chest, it's a huge cardboard treasure chest that my ballet teacher has used in umpteen recitals and I rescued when I heard she was going to throw it out! I am such a packrat.
So now, I need to get listing on TradeMe which is going to take forever with my antiquated Broadband, because I need some money for all the upgrading of the Fairy business which is currently taking place. My personalised plate is on it's way; I have an appointment with a gorgeous old lady who made most of my ballet costumes and still cant spell my name right, for a new fairy dress; I have purchased a webhost and domain and am currently in the process of trying to build my own website! Stop laughing! I'm using word, so it's not going to be tres flash as I had hoped it would, but i have lots of cool graphics I got from Google of flapping butterflies and glittering fairies, and since it is a kids business, I don't think it matters too much if it looks like a five year old designed it. Well, as soon as I figure how to upload, publish etc you can be the judges!

Speaking of five year olds, I have decided that it should be compulsary for people to take an intelligence test and training course before they are allowed to have sex, in case they happen to produce a child.
We had a function at work last night for a company which hired the foyer for nibbles before going down to Skycity to watch Shrek 3.
Total chaos. Children running around EVERYWHERE!
Parents today just don't seem to care! I would never have even attempted to do that when I was little. I stayed with my Mum, held her hand and waited politely while she talked to other grown up people, who were usually good enough to include me in the conversation coz I was so gosh darn cute! And I would wait until Mum gave me a piece of cake or a sandwich.
Anyway, Jase, Nat and I all had to get our Grrr faces on because these parents were doing nothing and we can't have little kiddies hooning around into our old ladies as they come out of a cinema.
I love kids. Honestly, you know I do - I'm a fairy!
I just hate parents.
Compulsary sterilisation for idiots. I totally support that.

I own seven pairs of red shoes.....hmm

From www.stuff.co.nz

Red shoes: sin, sex and freedom

Dorothy used her red shoes to click her heels and fly away from Oz. And Kiwi women, it seems, are wearing them to escape their mundane lives.
An Otago University sociologist who has spent the past six months asking why we wear red shoes has concluded young women wear them for excitement and out of a desire to be noticed. Most men associate red shoes with sex and sin.
University sociologist Dr Elaine Webster, whose long term interest is in "dress and identity", did the research after being impressed with the way women spoke about their red shoes.
"Women always say 'my red shoes make me feel great, I love my red shoes'. They never say 'I love my brown shoes'."
Webster believes footwear, more than any other item of clothing, has a special quality in our lives -and red shoes are a way to lift you out of a drab and ordinary existence. "Women and some men wear red shoes because they're really wanting a richer and more exciting life than the one they are living."
Many women she interviewed made a connection between their red shoes and Red Shoes, the film of Hans Christian Andersen's fairytale, or Dorothy in The Wizard of Oz.

Kids movies are not supposed to be so sad!!!!

I went to see Bridge to Terabithia after work tonight and absolutely blubbered my eyes out! I was not expecting something so sad!
Didn't help that it was a private screening all for moi either. I hate deciding to go watch a film after work because I don't want to go home and sit by myself in an empty house, and then turn up and I'm the only one in the cinema! It seems to happen every gosh darn time!
Anyway was good. The kids were great actors and the little sister was such a cutie pie!
Shot in NZ too.
Not the best kids flick I've ever seen, but a nice old fashioned kinda story.
I was planning to read the book, but considering I get far more emotional over books than films, I think I'll stay away from this one!

While I'm in a bloggy mood, I may as well also have a wee bitch.

I went to the supermarket after the film, as I find the wee small hours of the morning is the most stressfree time to do one of my most hated chores.

Anyway, when you're the only checkout open and there is a queue of about 7 people at your checkout which is right by the door which sends a freezing cold draft through every time someone walks in, wouldn't you at least TRY to go a little faster than usual!!!???? Especially when there is a grumpy, sick fairy in line with a really-heavy-overburdened-with-specials-basket!

Bitch over.

*Whispers* - "Sex!"

Considering that my lack of an immune system has me getting sick several times a year, one would think that by now I would know not to go out in the cold night when I'm getting over a cold. But no. I ventured out to the movies tonight and am back to hacking up my spleen.

I decided to go see Scenes of a Sexual Nature, or Scenes of a as referred to by our customers who daren't say the word "sex". Please, people, even I'm not that uptight!
Was an ok timefiller. Nothing spectacular but a good way to waste an hour and a half. My favourite story was the old couple; so incredibly sweet. But Ewan McGregor as a gay man? What a waste! So back off boys, he's ours!

And just when you think reality tv couldn't get anymore pathetic; was flicking through the channels and found Kept - Jerry Hall's search for a toy boy ("kept" man).

Monday, 11 June 2007

"There you go sweetheart. Have a good night."

Not what one would expect a 14 year old boy working at McDonalds to say to a 22 year old granny; but it happened to me tonight! Gave me quite a chuckle actually.

So, as most of you I see regularly know, I am quite sick at the moment and spend my days nearly coughing up my spleen! Anyway, am not working the next couple of days, so I am revamping my Fairy business.
I have lost my motivation this year since I haven't had any bookings, but yesterday I got an email from Fairy Sarah in Australia (I emailed her when I started up for some Fairy to Fairy advice) and she has started up an online Fairy Forum for fairies around the world to chat and exchange ideas.
Fabulous idea and just the boost I need to get up and running again.

So, changes to be made are:
* Jazzing up the Fairy Mobile - covered Gloria in fairy stickers today. Vinyl signage and personalised plate (FAIRYJ) to come
* New website - not one full of ads and popups
* Business cards - I've been told these are better than flyers as people tend to hold on to them longer
* Actually get around to learning how to face paint instead of just talking about it
* Learn some simple magic tricks
* Conquer my fear of popping balloons and learn to make balloon animals
* A brand spanking new gorgeous costume, much like this:

I see red, I see red, I see red!

So, the Fairy has gone red. Not as red as she had planned, and it's way more subtle than last time, but I likes it!

Rapunzel, Rapunzel, let down your hair

Sorry, dude. Left it lying in a heap on the floor at the salon this afternoon!
And gosh darn it, it feels wonderful! I think I've lost a good couple of kgs in weight from my hair alone!
Am now wondering whether or not I want to go red or not. I did like being a red head, but also like wearing red which gingas unfortunately can't do. Dilemma. Dilemma.

The new 'do'

Me during my Lucille Ball phase. Whatcha think? Red or brown?

Today, I also fell in love. With Hugh Jackman. Just came home from watching Scoop and oh my goodness! I give it 5 stars just for Hugh's smokin' hot, sizzlin', sexy, humminah humminah, drool provoking bod! Yummy!
The film wasn't bad either. I quite enjoyed it, and I loathe to admit it, but Scarlett Johannson was actually good. There I said it. She suited the role. Probably because she played an airy fairy dizzy tart. (I had to get a dig in there somehow)!
It closes tomorrow though, so see it if you can.

Good Night and Good Luck

So, as of 2am this morning (the time I got home from the closing night part-ay) I am officially on "sabbatical" from theatre; at least until next year if the rumours of West Side Story come to fruition.
I am going to have so much free time I'll not know what to do with myself! But I need a break so that I can fall in love with the stage all over again.
We had a pretty good season of Annie; every night was nearly, if not completely, sold out and the cast was a great one to work with. And I got to belt people with my handbag! It became a running joke of who I was going thump each night, hehe! Kinda made up for the heinous orange, yellow and green dress I had to wear. I am never going to get over that I don't think!
And tomorrow - Eek! the dreaded "T" word! - my hair is getting the chop! After three years of going through galloons of shampoo and conditioner, I can't wait! Will also dye it red again when Mum has some time. Go the gingas!
