"Guilty Break Up"cupcakes

So, I feel like a real bitch.
Broke up with Colin the other day.
It's the first time I have dumped someone who is really nice and didn't need to scream, name call and throw things at.
He is just so dull, so shy and so, so young. Those baggy jeans!
He actually teared up. I feel horrible.
We had a long talk and he seems ok with it, but he won't leave me alone now which is kinda worrying.
Have promised him some of my chocolate cupcakes which he loves to try and make up for it.

If anyone wants some home baking, let me know. I have found my calling! lol I will never be a chef, but apparently my chocolate cupcakes are "divine", so am practicing lots, but heaven knows, I don't need the extra calories! So place an order and I'll make it for you (free of charge)!

Am keen to try one of the Waitress pie recipies. The "I Can't Have An Affair Because It's Wrong" pie looks particularly good.

Lovely movie, delicious looking pies, and a delicious looking Captain Tightpants, right Nat?! Go see it!

The 1.25 hours of work to go and I'm bored entry

Friday Five:

Did you write a list to Santa when you were little? Do you write a Christmas present wish list now?
Of course I did! I still do try, but Mum says there's no such thing as Santa and that I'm too old to believe in him. Do you believe that?! If her daughter can be a fairy, why can't there be a Santa?

What are the top 10 things on your list this year?

10 things?! Wow...um...ok....the pink saucepan cookware set from KMart, (Yeah, I know I don't cook, but it's pink)! ; the pink or maybe purple tv / dvd combo from KMart also (designed for 11 year old girls and me); The Enchanted Dolls House Wedding book; The Field Fairies Book; the complete series of I Love Lucy on dvd; dvd or book vouchers are always good too; um....and someone to pay off my car.
Then of course the biggie....a true love....sigh.....

What are the three (or 1, 2, 4, 5) best presents you ever received as a child and why?

My rag doll Victoria (still my best friend); my first bike - pink of course with a wicker basket and shiny streamers for the handle bars; and when Santa finally got me a Barbie after years of begging....funny how Mum seemed to glare at Dad that night...hmmm

What are the top 5 movies you think everyone should see and why?

Gone With The Wind; An Affair to Remember; Charade; Bringing Up Baby; Gentlemen Prefer Blondes. Why? They are my top 5 fav films.

Which comes first, success or happiness? Or, to think of it a different way, does happiness follow success or are you only successful when you acheive happiness? Are they even necessarily related?

I think if you are happy you tend to be successful and lucky, which then brings more happiness, and then more success, and then more happiness etc It's all about your own outlook on life and situations that determine how happy and successful you are in life. Hmm wise words from a depression sufferer! lol

"Watch out for the doughnuts!"

Grease was utter fabulousness!
I think even more fun than the Sound Of Music!

I only lost one toilet roll in the car on the way there, but it was from the bottom at the back, so that was fine. And then they started falling off after, so if you were walking down Vic St the next day and found some tin foil covered toilet paper rolls....they're mine.

Janine and Emma

Complete fun even just crossing the road to the cinema, cars tooting, jaws dropping in disbelief anda crowd cheering us on from the cinema. (Yes, we were by far the most over the top - just the look I was going for!)

Amber, Janine and Shelley

I'm glad this was the second, coz I knew now to eat dinner first, not to pass my glass down the line every single time a refill of champers came along, and try and save my voice a little. Very valuable tips for those planning to embark on a singalong!

Janine, Luanne and Mags

Afterwards the two groups of friends decided it was too early to end the night so the Pink Ladies and BSDO Angels tottered down the street in very impractical ( but gorgeous) shoes to Domaine. Closed. So across the road to The Londoner - after a brief visit to the gutter - hehe Shelley! - where we pretended to be on an hen's night and ordered fuzzy navels, which were more navel than fuzzy. Hmm.

Emma, Amanda, and the Pink Ladies

But boy were my feet killing me the next day. I managed to survive in my size 6s even though I usually take a 7 or 8. Now that's dedication!

Recovery had to take place fast as the following afternoon I met Emma and Elfy at the Founders to see Blood Brothers. Awesome. Took all my self control not to turn into a fountain at the end, which was not easy.

Some of the staging and acting / accents were a little off but Sam Ware who played Mrs Johnston was amazing. Such a strong powerful voice. I am very jealous.

And funnilly enough, that was my first time seeing a musical I didn't know inside out and back to front! Not many of those left! lol

So, am using today as my day of rest...at least until work tonight. Bugga.

Movie reviews

Ratatouille - was wondering what to expect from a TWO HOUR kids film, but was very pleasantly surprised, considering I often have the attention span of a child, and can sometimes get a bit wriggly during a long film. But it worked.
Very sweet story about a rat with a delicate pallette, who ends up cheffing in a posh French restaurant.
And this was what I call a real children's film. No subtle - or not so subtle - adult humour, good morals and cute talking animals....even if they are rats!
(And I love the fact that I can spell ratatouille without consulting a dictionary)!

Am going again with Mum and a friend of hers who wants to see it next Monday, and I definately think I can sit through and enjoy it again.

It also inspired me to come home and bake cupcakes - the saying in the film being, "Anyone can cook!"
And surprisingly, the cupcakes turned out quite well; Colin enjoyed them anyway :)

And then there is the smash hit (in my books anyway) of 2007.
Hairspray.
What fun!
Took Mum to see it at Chartwell since she hadn't been there yet, and she was laughing out loud all the way through - something she never does over a movie.
Now, I remember loving the original with Ricky Lake (Go, Ricky!), but most unusual for remakes, this one takes the top banana.
By the way, look for Ricky at the contest.
John Travolta really stole the show with this one, and I'm not just saying that because I think he's peachy keen (although he definately is)!
Michelle Pfeiffer (now that I have to look up to spell) was also a very pleasant surprise in a very different role for her.

And the dresses!!!!!!
Yup, will definately be seeing this one again before it closes and waiting impatiently for the dvd to be released.
Ended up mod dancing around my living room last night to the soundtrack.
Utter fabulousness!

Me and Men

Had a very strange thought last night:
All the guys I have been involved with seriously have the same initials!
The first was Chris Z who, had he not been adopted out, would have been Chris McG.
Then there was Conan McG.
And now Colin McC.

Am hoping this is not going to lead into some awful pattern. And can I trust Colin based on his predecessors with the same initials? He is a McC rather than McG though....hmmm.....deep, man.

Back to blogging with a vengance

So, the thought of the day today is family.
And why don't I have a semi normal one? (As I realise there is no such thing as a normal family).

I got to thinking this when I was washing the dishes today and was watching the people next door having a huge family bbq with mums, dads, grandparents, aunties, uncles, brothers, sisters and lots of little ones laughing, playing and generally having a jolly good time.
That does not happen in my family. In fact, most of us can't stand each other!

Betts family gatherings are usually pretty torturous, so much so, that last Christmas Mum and I boycotted and drove down to Gisbourne to say hello to one of her friends, had a cup of coffee and turned around and drove home again! And I swear that it was the best Christmas I can remember! Just me, my Mum, Abba and Dean Martin cassettes and lotsa lollies.

But still; I would love to have nice family gatherings. I would also like a sister...maybe even a brother....Or just to get along with more than two people in my clan.

Mum and I have started calling the Betts side the Kiwi Mafia, after my grandma has hooked up with a guy only 9 years older than me, who is in and out of prison for assault, fraud, robbery and dealing P. Charming.
My grandmother used to be a VERY wealthy woman. She is now bankrupt because of this guy, but is still with him. Her only granddaughter would very much have appreciated getting a $30,000 a month allowance too, I can tell you that!
He has several other women, one of which used Mum's old car - Grandma asked for it back to give my new grandpa - in a robbery...No, several robberies. It's now the police's car.
Bet your family's looking quite good right about now, huh?
Anyway, the mafia thing started when my aunt, who's terrified of all her mother's money drying up and there being no inheritance told Mum that she was thinking of having Justin "taken care of."
Just call us the Sopranos.

Anyone want to adopt me into their family? Please!

Slack arse

I keep meaning to post a new blog entry, I promise, I even think about what I can write about....then I get caught up on Bebo or watching Gilmore Girls for the umpteenth time and my poor, poor blog gets all forsaken.

By the way, welcome back Cavey to Blogland! Yay! Have missed reading everyone's posts as one by one they have been seduced by the phenomenon that is Bebo!

So, what's new; well at the moment I am getting ready for the Grease singalong next Friday night. I've been building up the thing so much that I really hope it stands up to The Sound of Music. But it should, as there ended up being an A List and a B List for tickets!
I have roped the Shambles into joing me as beauty school dropout angels, so if anyone has any empty toilet paper or glad wrap rolls, we would appreciate them muchly!
I even attempted sewing my own dress.....but both of my antique sewing machines crapped out on me...and well...I'm just not so great at sewing. Luckilly, I have a wonderfully talented Mum who is attempting to salvage my costume!
One good thing is I managed to squeeze my size 7/8 clodhoppers quite comfortably into a pair of size 6 heels I couldn't be persuaded not to buy! Hopefully I'll be too drunk to notice the loss of feeling and circulation to my feet!

Elfy, you may need to help me to my seat when we go the the Blood Brothers matinee the following day! Maybe I can borrow a zimmer frame from one of the blue rinse brigade.....

I have had a few enquiries about my love life.
To be honest, I'm not too sure how it's going! I am still seeing Colin a.k.a Baggy Jeans. He's sweet but so incredibly shy. Even more timid than I am (believe it or not)! which makes things a little difficult!

Am trying to get over the last big crush I had...have....no HAD. Many of you have heard me puzzle over the complexities and mixed messages this guy has been sending me, but as he no longer seems to acknowledge my presence on this Earth, I give up. His loss. Not to sound too modest, but I would have been perfect for him. Ah well.

Am giving Colin a go though, especially since I was watching season six of GG today and Lorelai was recieving signs that her wedding was meant to be, and then I found out that Logan's friend Colin shares the same last name as my Colin! As a firm believer in signs, I took this to be a big one! Added to that the fact that he is openly a GG fan! Score! lol Neither Chris or Conan would ever admit to liking it even though they would stop what they were doing and watch with me, or gladly watch it for me if I were going to miss it!

Am trying to deal with the shyness, after all I'm not exactly over the top and outspoken! And it is so nice to feel wanted and liked by a guy, instead of being ignored which is what I usually get by so called suitors. He sent me a txt today simply saying "I like you", which I find incredibly sweet. And after we've seen each other and gone to our respective homes, he always sends me a txt saying he was too shy to tell me that I looked pretty. Now, who doesn't love that!?

And anyway, the baggy jeans I can change; he does come across as very.....maleable! I'm pretty sure I can turn him into something acceptable to be seen with in public!

Gosh, I really am a bigger snob than I thought I was!

Some movies I've seen since my last review post:

The Simpsons - very good.

I Now Pronounce You Chuck and Larry - predictable and used only as a time filler. Wouldn't mind having Jessica Biel's body though......However mine can't be too bad, as my cleavage got me extra sauce on my chips from the sleazy kebab shop guys tonight!

And I'm pretty sure there were a couple more silly Skycity ones...but I can't seem to recall any!

Anyway, am meeting up with Colin after work for the late night screening of Hairspray. I loved the original with Ricky Lake, and I still have quite a thing for John Travolta...although he will be in drag in this film....hmm.....

And finally, a Friday Five:

1. What was the most sick that you've ever been?
I had pneumonia when I was little, I guess that's quite bad, but the gastro I had earlier this year was far nastier!

2. What disease are you afraid of getting?
Cancer.

3. Are you a big baby when it comes to taking medicine/shots for your illnesses?
The biggest baby there is. Never had a blood test and intend to hold off from having one for as long as possible!

4. Is going to the doctor really THAT bad?
Yes.

5. Would you have the flu twice a month if you were paid $1,000 for having it?
Forever? Then no; but occasionally then sure, I usually do get colds once a month anyway!

I'm sorry...If I'm not skinny enough for you to see my ribs.
I'm sorry..If I'm not pretty enough to be "your girl".
I'm sorry..If I'm not tan enough for you.
I'm sorry..If I'm not a playboy model so I don't act like a porn star for you.
I'm sorry..If I don't have a dream body that turns you on.
I'm sorry..If I'm too short for you.
I'm sorry..If I won't drop down to my knees to get you to like me.
I'm sorry..If my hair is not long enough.
I'm sorry..If I'm not the "hottest" girl you have ever seen.
But most of all...I'm sorry that most guys can't accept a girl for who she really is.

Wishful thinking:
A guy who:
GIVES HER ONE OF YOUR T-SHIRTS TO SLEEP IN.
LEAVES HER CUTE TEXT MESSAGES.
KISSES HER IN FRONT OF YOUR FRIENDS.
TRUSTS HER OVER EVERYONE ELSE.
TELLS HER SHE LOOKS BEAUTIFUL.
LOOKS HER IN THE EYE WHEN YOU TALK TO HER.
LETS HER MESS WITH YOUR HAIR.
MESSES WITH HER HAIR.
JUST WALKS AROUND WITH HER.
INCLUDES HER IN ALL THINGS YOU DO.
FORGIVES HER FOR HER MISTAKES.
LOOKS AT HER LIKES SHE'S THE ONLY GIRL YOU SEE.
TICKLES HER EVEN WHEN SHE SAYS STOP.
HOLDS HER HAND EVEN WHEN YOU ARE AROUND YOUR FRIENDS.
WHEN SHE STARTS SWEARING AT YOU TELL HER YOU LOVE HER.
LETS HER FALL ASLEEP IN YOUR ARMS.
GET HER MAD, THEN KISS HER.
TEASES HER & LETS HER TEASE YOU BACK.
STAYS UP WITH HER ALL NIGHT WHEN SHES SICK.
WATCHES HER FAVORITE MOVIE WITH HER
KISSES HER FOREHEAD.
GIVES HER THE WORLD.
WRITES HER LETTERS.
LETS HER WEAR YOUR CLOTHES.
WHEN SHES SAD, HANGS OUT WITH HER.
LETS HER KNOW SHE'S IMPORTANT.
LETS HER TAKE ALL THE PHOTOS OF YOU SHE WANTS.
KISSES HER IN THE RAIN.
CALLS HER EVERY NIGHT.
AND WHEN YOU FALL IN LOVE WITH HER, TELL HER.
AND WHEN YOU DO TELL HER, LOVE HER LIKE YOU NEVER LOVED BEFORE.

On an happier note: I got ID'd for the first time in my life at the booze shop tonight!!!! I am still absolutely chuffed!
