To wear my fairy costume to work tomorrow, that is. However I think I shall have to just go with the fairy themed accessories...of which I have many...d'uh! Since of course I work for a huge conglomerate cooperation which specialises in crushing souls and sucking fun out of everything. So why, other than the fact that, hey, it is me! Do I want to dress like a fairy tomorrow?
Well, I owe a big thank you to April Elf for pointing out to me that tomorrow is indeed Fairy Day! (I wonder if this means I get presents? Maybe a bit hopeful, so how about making sure you hug a fairy - ie. me - tomorrow to show your appreciation....and to show you aren't a stodgy old non-believeing unfun grown up person)! Now, some movie reviews.
First up, Pierrepoint, which I actually saw last year, but it has only just opened so will do my best to tell you to go see it.
Now some people, are interested in how THINGS work, so they take horrible boring subjects at school like science and maths. Yuk. But if you know me, and most of you do, you'll know that I took all the fun artsy subjects like Drama, English, History, Classics and Art History because I am fascinated (isn't that a cool word? Fascinated?) by how PEOPLE work. And this film definately appealed to me for that reason.
It is about Albert Pierrepoint, Britain's most notorious hangman. An ordinary man who owned a grocer shop and later a pub, who had a wife, and was liked and respected in his community, who decided to follow in his daddy's footsteps and start knocking off naughty people for a living.
Now, I am assuming here, but not many people would actually choose to have a job where they have to kill people! So it was very interesting to watch and try to understand this man and to see the effects it had on his family and friends when word got out on how he managed to get the dosh to buy a pub!
Go and watch it. There are no gory bits and it has Juliet Stevenson as Mrs Pierrepoint, who I absolutely love. She pops up in a lot of little British films, but you'd probably know her best as Keira Friggin' Knightley's mum in Bend it Like Beckham.
Paris, Je T'Aime. Which all Rialto staff should now know how to pronounce correctly! (Pa-ree Jeh Tem for those of you who don't work at Rialto or parlez le francais). Apparently I did learn soemthing in my five years of sitting in a French class with a teacher who taught very little French!
Anyway, this a gorgeous film made up of 20 different 5 minute films all about Paris. Most of it is in French but you do have your "Americans in Paris" as well, so you get some English.
A couple of rather odd pieces, but hey, it is an arty film! And some very touching ones.
My favourite though was actually the one about the American woman who is recounting her trip to Paris to her French class. One of the reasons I loved this, was because she spoke French at my level, so I could actually understand what she was saying without having to consult the subtitles. How cool am I?! hehe! I also didn't like it, because I she could very well be a future version of me. Hmm.
Actually no, I think my favourite would have to be the mimes! So funny!
I also have to say, isn't Miranda Richardson gorgeous?! I love her. And she actually didn't have any lines in the film!
Oh, and Juliette Binoche. I would have to say that she is my favourite modern actress. Love her!
Anyway, don't be one of those unsophisticated plebs who go "Ugh. Subtitles!" They are not that hard to follow people! Go and see it. Absolutley charming film. If you don't believe me, ask the two rude old women who sat behind me and talked the entire length of the film! GRRRR!!!!! I desperatly wanted to turn around and give them a big SSSSSHHHHHH! But of course, I was raised too well to be able to do that to people older than myself, and since I work there, they probably wouldn't be too happy if they recognised the person sshhhing them to be a staff member and complain or something. So I had to tolerate it.

And finally, Shrek The Third. Sorry Rob, I saw it without you, but will very happilly go again.
Ok, so the second one is still my favourite, but this one was not as bad as I had heard. It is definately more for adults though, as some lines will have parents cursing the writers when little Johnny or Susie says "Mummy....what did Puss in Boots mean when he said.......?"
Speaking of Puss in Boots, Antonio Banderas is just hot and very very cool, even as a cat!
I found it highly amusing that the villain in the story is none other than my ex. Now for those of you fortunate enough to never actually meet Conan, let me explain that he looks exactly like Prince Charming - a fact he reminded me of often. Only he has 10 times the ego. So yeah, seeing P.C get his comeuppance in the film, felt especially good.
And oh my goodness! You know you want a baby when you get clucky over little ogre babies! But they are soooo cute!!!!
The arse kicking princesses were pretty cool too. Just as bitchy and ditsy as you'd imagine.
Ok, so this review is basically sporadic bits of thought, but I thought it was pretty good.
Favourite bits:
Watch for Julie Andrews humming bits of Chim Chimmeny and Doe a Deer.
And "Sausage roll!" The rebel yell of the Three Little Pigs as they roll onto the stage.
My one major gripe? SIX FRIGGIN' DOLLARS FOR A BOX OF PODS!!!!!!!!!! I'm lucky I like myself enough to think I'm worth the treat! I could not believe it!
Oh, and I wish they had brought back Jennifer Saunders as The Fairy Godmother. She was my favourite :(

Wow. That was a loooong blog!
Now, don't forget Fairy Day tomorrow!
Luv, hugs, 'n' fairy dust, all!
