Ok, so the above has absolutely no relevance whatsoever to tonight's ramblings, but as I was stuck for a title, it'll have to do!
Right, so the self confessed "I hate school and don't ever want a career" woman has just enrolled herself in a correspondance course to get my certificate in travel consultancy so that I can get....gulp....a ca....car.....career.
I know.
Will see how it goes anyway.
Less than a month until we go and no job yet. 60ish CVs sent out and I only have my third interview this Thursday for a position as a dental assistant. Not too sure if it's my thing, but am getting desperate and intend to take the first offer that comes along, so fingers and toes crossed for me please!
In other news, I have a new leading man in my life, and so far so good. He's very sweet and makes me laugh, and he thinks my nuttiness is cute.
However.....I have realised that I am guilty of double standards.
90% of my female friends all live at home, which I think is a fab idea and I would too if I had a decent father. However, the thought of a 28 year old man still living at home just seems kinda wrong to me, even though I know it isn't!
What do you other ladies think?
Am looking forward to seeing the musical Cats tomorrow night. I'm taking my landlady / neighbour, so will post a review tomorrow night...or Wednesday.
In the meantime, a film review.
Mrs Ratcliffe's Revolution is based on a true story about a British family who move over to communist East Germany in the 60s and it's then up to the mother to get them all out again.
It stars the hilarious Catherine Tate, who I actually like! The "Am I bovvered?" sequence has me in fits all the time and I am full of admiration of the rapid fire delivery.
Anywho, the film isn't fabulous, but it's entertaining enough and has some good laughs.
***.5 stars.
Oh, and I nearly forgot; yet another convention has been added to the USA trip..... the Spoutwood Fairy Festival in Glen Rock, Pennsylvania which is co produced by my friend Posie the Fairy. A three day long festival of fairy fun in the sun on a huge farm in the middle of nowhere. It should be a blast.

I'm tempted to also go to the Rockabilly convention in Las Vegas, but it's a bit too expensive and I don't want to get all conventioned out!

Re: older men still living at home.
When the ex and I broke up in June, my friend Kathryn and I came up with a list of qualities for what I should be looking for in any future guys, since it's clear that my ex was so wrong in so many ways. One of the major ones that we listed was independence - the guy has to have his own place and not be attached at the hip to their parent(s).
Partially, it's simply a matter of convenience - if I want to go back to a guy's house after a date, or spend an evening in, I don't want to be making small talk with his mom while watching a movie or cooking dinner. I'm all for good relations with in-laws, but I feel they're best kept at a distance, especially at the start of a relationship.
Probably more important than that, though, is that I respect independence. I'm fiercely independent - I spent two months at home this past summer, and although I love my parents, I was sick of living under their roof by the end of August. Therefore, it's important that someone I date is also independent. I don't have a strict design for my future, and I want the person I'm with to be the same - otherwise, as was the case with my ex, I'll end up trying to shoehorn myself into their narrow goals, instead of building goals together.
That's probably not a huge issue for you in that you're not a crazily independent career-driven workaholic like myself... but nonetheless, in the context of your goals, you might want to consider that a guy who still lives at home may have some sort of mommy-attachment issues, and as someone who wants to take on the stay at home mom role in the future, you may end up finding yourself conflicting with the guy's mom. She could see you as stealing her baby, and he could always constantly compare you to her.
Maybe I'm just being overly cynical, but I would NEVER date a guy who is over 25 and still lives at home full-time, unless there is some sort of extenuating circumstance like short-term care of a sick parent or insurmountable student debt.
I think that it depends on the relationship that he has with his family. If he's just avoiding responsibility, then that's not good but if he's like me and is trying to save money or help them out, then that's cool.
I don't really truck with that whole 'independence' thing anyway. We're all dependent on someone else and I think it's nice when people get on with their family. I'd rather share a house with people that I've always known (and put money towards their mortgage), than some idiot strangers (as most of my flatmates have been). And as you said, if you could live with your Mum, you would, so you can't really hold him to different standards.
If he's there with them, then you can be sure that he's not been ho-ing it around (unless they're white trash and don't care!). tee hee.
